“Christ purchased our freedom (redeeming us) from the curse of the law by Himself becoming a curse for us, for it is written, cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.” (Gal 3:13)
Jesus Christ died for us and became a curse for us. He purchased our freedom from the curse of the law. Romans 10:4 says that Christ is the end of the law as a means to righteousness.
“Now before the faith came, we were guarded under the law, kept in custody in preparation for the faith that was destined to be revealed, so that the law served as our trainer (our guardian or schoolmaster) until Christ came, that we might be justified by and through faith.” (Gal 3:23-24)
Do you realise that the law was just for a given time until Christ came? The law had a definite function, but Christ is the end to that function. Scripture says that the law was a schoolmaster, a guardian until the seed, Christ should come.
When Jesus died He said, “It is finished.” I believe He said that the time of law is now over, because He took the punishment for all disobedience to the law. The real father of the house, God the Father, is now in charge. The school master’s time is over. Father God now lives with His people. For example: The children go to school during the day. The school master is their guardian for the time they are at school. When the children go home, their father is the one who is in charge. The law is likened to a schoolmaster, or a guardian. For a time it guarded the children of Israel, but only until the real guardian, the
Father came. Now we who were gentiles, with the believing Jews (in Christ) belong to the same household. See Ephesians 2:15-19 for further reading.
