As Christians we fail because we depend on our own ability AND we succeed because we depend on Him. It is that simple. I want to tell you something that may come as a surprise to you. I do not learn from my mistakes. The Holy Spirit is my only teacher. If you try to learn something from your mistakes, you end up trying to correct them in your own strength. In all of this you end up depending on yourself and your own ability to not repeat the same mistakes. This will only cause you to fail again, BUT if the Holy Spirit teaches you, you will depend more and more on Jesus and He cannot and has never failed anyone.
Have you ever felt that God disappointed you? I have felt like that many times. We feel as if God has failed us, but it is actually because of the fact that we were trusting in our own strength that we failed. The Bible says, “he who puts his trust in Him will never be put to shame or be disappointed.” (Romans 10:11). “Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5). The more we put our confidence in His ability, the more we will see His power and life manifest in our lives. We need to realise that we stand helpless without Him! But thank God for his wonderful grace that is available for anyone who is humble enough to receive it.
The only difference between believers in terms of their level of maturity OR how much of Christ is seen through them is this: the grace that they receive or resist. How much of His grace do you receive daily and how much of His grace do you knowingly or unknowingly resist? If you see Christ manifesting (living) through someone, it says something about their humility. They are humble enough to receive grace and not trust in their own strength. “It is not by might, it is not by power, but by my Spirit.” (Zechariah 4:6). For example, a human being starts off as a small baby and then grows and become independent from the mother and father. A Believer starts off as a fully grown independent man/woman and then becomes smaller and smaller until they reach the stage where they become like a small baby: fully dependent on Jesus Christ. This is true spiritual maturity. You mature outwardly, as a result of the fact that you become more and more dependent on Jesus inwardly.
Have you been striving, trying, and toiling in your own strength? Have you felt like giving up or that you just cannot take it anymore? Have you thought in your mind, “I am just not strong enough?” Just say this out loud where you are: “Help me Jesus, I need you.” Say it from your heart. If you want to scream it out, scream! If you want to whisper it, whisper. He is right next to you, ready to help. He will never fail you!
There are two types of Christians in this world. Those who knows how weak they are AND those who are about to find out how weak they are. The sooner you understand how weak you are, the SOONER YOU WILL, “BE STRONG IN THE LORD AND IN THE POWER OF HIS MIGHT.”
